PRO PUBLIC, a non-profit, a non-governmental organization dedicated to the cause of public interest, was founded in 1991 by a consortium of environmental lawyers, journalists, economists, engineers, consumers and women rights activists.

It raises voice against corruption, red tapism and irregularities and makes the government bodies aware of their duties and responsibilities. Its focus over the years has been on good governance, conflict transformation and peacebuilding, protection of natural and cultural heritage, environmental justice, pollution control, gender justice and consumer protection.

  • I worked as a mediator during the ‘Panchayat System’ (under absolute monarchy). Back then, we favored one party in the conflict and denied the other. It didn’t promote peace and harmony in a real sense. But Pro Public’s approach of mediation connects people with differences.

  • The social dialogue sessions brought us closer as a community I feel that now. We learned to listen to each other's perspectives and understand the challenges faced by different groups which used to be difficult for us to listen to others before this dialogue. It helped us build empathy and work together towards common goals.

  • Participating in the dialogue sessions made me to realize the power of dialogue in building bridges and fostering empathy. Now, I can see my neighbor pain rather than judging him for acting in a certain way that I don’t like. I understood he is also like me who has pain, happiness, and challenges in the life and loves when he is supported. It brought diverse voices to our table and empowered us to work towards common solutions of our village. We are more united and resilient as a result of the dialogue.
